Weekly Roundup
April 16, 2026
Check out this week's roundup of the good things going on at GDG! Stories this week feature a Nevada student who bought supplies for her math teacher, goody bags for the elderly in Nebraska, and a fundraiser for a Minnesota Spring Fling Dance.

I chose to help my math teacher because I saw that she needed supplies such as pencils, markers, lined paper, and math decorations. She tries her best in teaching, and I noticed she could use some extra help. It was nice to see her happy when I gave her the supplies. It made me feel happy knowing that I was able to brighten her day, especially because I know teaching is not an easy job.

I chose to take my Benjamin Project to a retirement home. My grandma just recently passed away and having her there, I noticed the residents didn't get many things from the nursing home itself. So I decided to make goody bags for the men and women there that would need things, like grippy socks, tooth brushes, and things to ease their boredom. This cause is really near and dear to my heart. As I went and gave the bags they were all so happy to get the gift and have someone to talk to.

With about $50 I bought prizes for our Spring Fling Dance, which was for 5th grade through 8th grade students. As a council we decided to add an incentive for students who pre-paid for tickets during lunch when we were selling them. With pre-admission tickets we earned $545 (109 students bought tickets before the event). With the left over money, our student council is raising money for Fools 5, a cancer fundraiser in our community. We bought blow pops to sell during lunches for profit. We colored the bottoms of the suckers and sold them. (Blue - $2/sucker, Pink - $1/sucker, Yellow - Free). Each bag of 75 suckers will earn us $440 towards our goal if we sold all of the suckers.
