Weekly Roundup
June 25, 2026
Check out this week's roundup of the good things going on at GDG! We have a scholarship reflection, plus Benjamin Project stories this week that feature a Thanksgiving fundraiser in Nebraska, a hygiene project in Nevada, and a Minnesota student buying school supplies for her school.
Breanna - Nebraska
With the $100 that we received, we joined with another Benjamin Project for a starting total of $200. Together, we created a school wide fundraiser raising well over $1400. We used that money to order family meals from HyVee for Thanksgiving. Thanks to our teacher, we were blessed to feed over 15 families for Thanksgiving. The remainder of that money went to the middle school food closet for students in need. With the initial funds we received, we bought popcorn and cups to celebrate the home rooms in each grade who raised the most money. The leftover money from that also went to the Food Closet.
Emily - Nevada
A friend and I worked together to help with Project 150 for our school. We bought many hygiene and non-perishable food products for students and people in our community in need. It was fun to be able to buy things with my own time and ideas, because I learned many things. I was able to have fun with other kids from my class who were also helping!
Kaitlyn - Minnesota
My friend and I used our $100 to buy school supplies at Target and hand them out to teachers at our school. We know that not everyone can afford enough school supplies and teachers shouldn't have to use their own money to help. We bought the supplies and divided them up and gave them to our teachers. Our librarian has a little station of stuff to use in-between classes, like if you need to staple or tape something. She was so excited and told us that she had just run out and needed to run to the store that week.

Thank you so much for your help with getting me to go on my school's DC trip. This trip was a life changing experience for me, I met new people, saw new things, learned new skills, and bonded with my classmates. Without your help, I wouldn't have been able to do that. On my school's trip we got to see the Holocaust museum, World War II memorial, and go to Arlington cemetery. Seeing these things made me realize how eye opening things can be once you get to witness them in your real life. In the Holocaust museum I got to read what happened and I got a better understanding of what went on in our world during an era I was not around for. I learned what they did to people who were different than they were, or overall just people who didn't agree with their views.
At Arlington National Cemetery I got to witness the changing of the guard and learn why it happens and how much history there is behind everything. I saw many graves and the grounds felt heavy, but in a peaceful way. Walking around with my group we saw many memorials and many graves. Knowing that these people were all people who fought, or had family members who fought, made me realize how many people risk their lives to keep me and my country safe. I loved seeing this.
At the World War II Memorial, I walked around with my group and by just walking around I could feel the heaviness in the air of what had happened. Before this trip I had never really thought of any of these things, or really even considered them. Once I saw these it gave me a better understanding of what happened and how it started. This is an experience I will NEVER be able to forget, and without your help, I wouldn't have been able to see it. Thank you so much for helping me go onto this once in a lifetime trip. I appreciate you and the entire team. Thank you so so much.
