From raising over $850 with a cinnamon roll sale to stocking essentials for a family shelter, see how our students are taking action this week! This week's Benjamin Project features two Nebraska students baking treats to support a swing dance nonprofit, two Nevada brothers donating reading rewards to their former elementary school, and a Minnesota student delivering essential supplies to families in need. Rounding out the week is a heartfelt travel reflection from a Washington student who honored her great-grandfather's service at the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
Birdie and Dottie - Nebraska
We combined our $100 and supported the Omaha Jitterbugs by baking and selling cinnamon rolls. We took orders at the Friday night dance at the Omaha Jitterbugs. Then, we got the ingredients from the store, baked the cinnamon rolls and texted everyone who ordered when and where to pick them up. They paid us and went on their way. We are donating the money to the Omaha Jitterbugs because it is a nonprofit organization that holds swing dancing events. In total we raised $858.48 for the Omaha Jitterbugs.
Idriss - Nevada
My brother and I supported our former elementary school for our Benjamin project. There was always a need for toys during reward periods for the AR reading system. (AR rewards points for reading after completing a test, students have a goal amount of points that they reach and receive toys at each 25% benchmark.) We decided to combine our money so we could maximize the donations given. We ended up donating erasers, stress toys, and small pets. We took all of our donations to the school's office and ended up handing them over to the Vice Principal. The school was overjoyed with the gifts that we had for their school.
Julai - Minnesota
We used our $100 to get essentials for a family homeless shelter. We got things like underwear, socks, toothbrushes and toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, and towels. It was really fun, and I think that we definitely made an impact by giving things that people need and things that shelters probably don't get enough of. It inspired us to do more things for our community especially for families in need!

I am so thankful I got to go on this trip and see so many amazing things like memorials, museums, and Times Square. It has always been my dream. To start, one of my favorite memorials we visited was the Korean War Memorial. I like that one the most because my great grandpa served in that war and survived, but also it shows so much respect to the people who passed away during the war. It just stands out to me. One of my favorite museums we visited was the American Museum. I like that one the most because it shows the ruby slippers and so much more of old original movies and artists like Selena Quintanilla.
Lastly, my favorite part of visiting times square was seeing all the huge stores and how much work they put into it. I was incredibly surprised how nice the people were, I know some people are mean but I didn't see a single one. I also loved seeing all the big screens and how lit up it was, and where the ball is dropped. This was genuinely the best trip I have ever gone on, and I am very thankful I got to do this.
